How To Fix Samsung TV Remote Problems in 5 Easy Steps

Your Samsung TV remote is required to change inputs, access applications and adjust the TV settings. if the remote isn’t working your pretty much stuck until you have the issue resolved. The good news though is TV remote problems are easily fixable with a few quick steps.

1. Power Cycle The Remote

First remote the batteries from the remote. Then press all the buttons on the remote individually while the batteries are out. Put the batteries back in the remote after that.

Sometimes a remote can freeze up or a button might be wedged down that you haven’t noticed yet.

Test out the remote to check if it’s working now.

2. Check Line Of Sight To The TV’s IR sensor

The TV’s IR sensor is the part that receives a signal from the remote. It is usually located in the lower left corner of most Samsung TV models. If anything might be blocking the signal from the remote to the IR sensor the TV will not respond to the remote.

Check to make sure there is nothing that could be blocking the IR sensor like a cable box, picture frame, etc. Remove anything that could be blocking the sensor. Test out your remote again by pointing it directly at the IR sensor and pressing buttons on the remote.

3. Power Cycle The TV

A TV can freeze up just like a computer can. Especially if it’s a smart TV. Power cycling can resolve this.

Turn off the television and unplug it from the power. Press and hold the power button on the TV while it’s unplugged. The power button on most Samsung TV’s is located on the left side. Sometimes it’s on the back of the TV.

After you have held down the power button for 30 seconds release it. Plug the TV back in and power it on. Test the remote. If the remote still isn’t working move on to the next step.

4. Use New Batteries In The Remote

If the remote problems continue try using a new pair of batteries. This is one of the final steps to try because new batteries are not always necessary and there is no point in wasting the money when it won’t fix the problem. If the remote works then the problem was just the batteries.

5. Contact Samsung Support

If the remote still isn’t working then it’s probably time to get a new remote. If your TV is less than 12 months old the warranty will still be active. Contact Samsung support for a replacement remote. If your warranty is already expired a support representative can explain options for purchasing a new remote.
