What happens when your TV won’t power on? Does that mean it’s kaput? Not necessarily.

Power problems can often be easily remedied with a few simple steps. I’m going to walk you through those steps to make your TV as good as new.

Step 1: Power The TV On Manually

The issue not be a power problem at all. It could just be an issue with the remote. Put the remote down and use the power button on the TV.

The power button on most Samsung TVs are located on the left side of the TV or on the back of the TV in the lower corner. Every Samsung TV has a power button on it. Locate it and check if the TV will power on that way.

If the TV powers on then that means the remote is the problem. Check out this article for how to fix remote problems. If the TV still isn’t power on proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Power Cycle The TV

Unplug the TV’s power cord from the power outlet. Hold down the power button on the TV. Doing this clears residual power from the TV. Then plug the TV back in and try to power it on again. The TV might power on immediately and if it does your problem is resolved.

Step 3: Reseat The Power Cord.

The power cord on most Samsung TV’s is detachable. Sometimes the power cord can become loose from the connection on the back of the TV. If it has the TV will not able to receive the juice it needs to work.

Simply disconnect the power cord from the back of the TV then reconnect it ensuring the cord is firmly plugged into the AC power on the back of the TV. Then attempt to power the TV on again.

Step 4: Try A New Power Outlet

The wall outlet the TV is connected to might be the source of the problem. If you are using a power strip or a surge protector that might be causing a problem as well.

Disconnect the surge protector if you use one. Then connect the TV to a new power outlet that you haven’t tried before. Attempt to power the TV on. If it works this time then the problem was the original power outlet the TV was connected to. Time to call an electrician.

Step 5: Contact Samsung Tech Support For TV Repair Or Replacement Options

If you tried all the steps above and the TV still won’t power on then the TV is definitely broken. Power problems can often be repaired though which means the TV could be used again. All Samsung TV’s have at least a one year warranty. Contact Samsung technical support at 1-800-726-7864.

A support representative will explain your options to service the TV. Even if the TV’s warranty is already expired you might have options to pay for out of warranty service. Or if you have an extended warranty on the TV then the warranty will cover the problem.
